"Standing Stones" is an album created using technology “limited” to what was available by 1969. The instrument I used is my interpretation of a 1960’s Buchla 100 series Electronic Music System. I used replicas, emulations or interpretations of the original modular Buchla circuits (or as close as I could get in 3U format). The audio effects that were used were those that would have been available at the time, such as spring reverb, basic tape delay, ring modulation, and frequency shifters.

All the performances were recorded live using this modular system and edited for length. My goal was to record an album of music that could have been produced in the 1960’s. With almost limitless technology available to musicians today, it was a lot of fun and very satisfying to “go back in time” to one point in the origin of electronic sound and try to harness the sheer power and unpredictability of the Buchla 100 series.

Each piece is comprised of a looped, sequenced “theme” with related timbres and live manipulation of the controls.
